A different approach to an academic career

Many academics I know are unhappy about how they spend their time. They take on too many tasks they don’t want to do or that don’t advance their goal, leaving them with insufficient time to devote to things that are most meaningful to them. As a consequence, they wind up feeling overworked, overwhelmed, unsatisfied, and/or guilty. This is unfortunate, but it doesn’t have to be this way. In my faculty coaching, I use evidence-based practices to help faculty bring deep intentionality to the way they make decisions about the projects and roles they pursue and how they spend their time. I help clients implement strategies that enable them to produce high-quality work that is meaningful to them, all while enjoying the process and staying sane.

Services

Initial consultation

This is an initial 1.5 hour session where we work together to identify various challenges you are encountering at work that may be hindering your ability to be productive and happy. I’ll ask questions about you and your working style that will allow us to formulate a tailored, actionable plan that I will share with you.

90 mins

These are 55-minute sessions where we collaborate on tackling work challenges. I help my clients develop a vision and set of values to guide decisions about what tasks to take on, to avoid overcommitting (i.e., to say “no” to things they should be saying “no” to), to plan ahead, to foster and maintain healthy work relationships, to identify and seek out high impact opportunities, and to extract themselves from projects and relationships that are not working for them.

55 mins

I lead virtual and in-person leadership and productivity workshops that can be tailored to specific group goals and needs.

I offer high-level or detailed feedback on grant proposals.
